Worldwide presence
PB currently has 6 factories worldwide, located in Belgium, Germany, UK, USA, Argentina and China. Two additional factories are being constructed in Brazil and in North East China. These new production units will become operational during the second half of 2011.
The unit in Vilvoorde (Belgium) produces acid gelatin from pig skins and pig bones, as well as specialty gelatins. Vilvoorde also has a bone processing facility where ossein is produced as a raw material source for our other facilities.
The units in the British Treforest and the German Nienburg process the ossein from Vilvoorde into gelatin. In Nienburg, gelatin is also prepared from cattle hides and pigskins. The Nienburg unit produces alkaline and acid gelatin, cold soluble gelatins as well as a range of hydrolysates.
In April 2003, Tessenderlo Group acquired production units of PB Leiner in the USA (Davenport) and Argentina (Santa Fe). The unit in Davenport produces porcine gelatin and a full range of porcine hydrolysates. Santa Fe specializes in alkaline and acid beef gelatin.
In 2006 PB set up a joint venture with a Chinese partner in Pingyang near Wenzhou in south eastern China. The plant produces porcine gelatin for pharmaceutical and edible applications.
The new production plant in Brazil is located in Acorizal, a small village in the State of Mato Grosso and will become operational during the second half of 2011. The plant will produce high quality beef skin gelatin.
The new production plant in North East China will become operational during the second half of 2011.
